What is a GST Tax Invoice in Australia?
By The Aus GST Invoices Team
A plain-English guide to what an Australian GST tax invoice must include, and when you're required to issue one.
A tax invoice is a document that records a sale and the GST charged on it. The ATO requires businesses registered for GST to issue a tax invoice for any taxable sale over $82.50 (including GST) when the buyer asks for one.
At a minimum, an Australian tax invoice must include the words 'Tax Invoice', the seller's identity and ABN, the date of issue, a description of the items sold, the GST amount (or a statement that the total includes GST), and the total price.
If the sale is over $1,000, you also need to include the buyer's identity or ABN. Keeping your invoices clear and consistent makes BAS time much easier.
